If the prices are also high, you may start comparing Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, and domestic destinations more carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not only your personal preference. <strong>Summer travel is changing due to heat, crowds, and higher prices.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That makes it a useful topic for English conversation. You already know the places, weather, and travel choices. You do not need special tourism knowledge. You only need a clear way to explain your opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Are Travelers Changing Their Summer Plans?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tourism.jp\/en\/research-reports\/travel-trends-outlook-2026-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JTB summer travel forecast<\/a> estimates that about <strong>71.2 million Japanese travelers<\/strong> will travel during the main summer holiday period from July 15 to August 31, 2026. That is around 5% fewer travelers than the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Japanese <strong>outbound travel<\/strong> is expected to fall by about 9%. A weak yen, higher travel costs, and geopolitical uncertainty are making overseas trips more expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, nearby destinations are becoming more attractive. South Korea and Taiwan offer shorter flight times and can provide better value than longer-distance trips. Taiwan is among the increasingly popular destinations for Japanese overseas travelers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heat is also affecting travel behavior. Travelers are showing more interest in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Indoor activities  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Early-morning sightseeing  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nighttime activities  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shorter trips  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nearby destinations  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More affordable experiences  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Travel during <strong>off-peak<\/strong> periods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taiwanese travelers already understand these choices. You may choose a cooler mountain trip instead of a crowded beach. You may visit Japan in autumn rather than during the hottest part of summer. You can make your answer stronger with the <strong>Opinion Framework<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Opinion<\/strong>: State your main choice.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reason<\/strong>: Explain why you made it.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Example<\/strong>: Give a specific detail.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Impact<\/strong>: Explain how the choice affects your experience.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Invite<\/strong>: Ask the other person what they think.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a simple example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think Taiwan is a good summer <strong>destination<\/strong> because it is easy to reach and offers many different activities. For example, I can visit a mountain area in the morning and enjoy a night market in the evening. That gives me more flexibility without spending too much time or money on transportation. What kind of summer trip do you usually prefer?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This structure helps you keep speaking. You do not need perfect grammar. You need a clear path from your opinion to your example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The goal is not to sound like a travel advertisement. The goal is to help another person understand your choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guided Practice: Talk About Your Summer Travel Choices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Try answering each prompt out loud. I don\u2019t mind paying a little more if the location saves me time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice how the answer describes preferences and explains the reasons behind them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prompt 2: Compare Two Summer Destinations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine that you are choosing between a cooler mountain trip and a nearby city trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can compare them using:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cCompared with\u2026\u201d  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cOn the other hand\u2026\u201d  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThe advantage is\u2026\u201d  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThe downside is\u2026\u201d  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThe main <strong>tradeoff<\/strong> is\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Model Answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCompared with a trip to a nearby city, a mountain trip would probably be cooler and less crowded. The downside is that transportation might be less convenient, and there may be fewer restaurants open at night. A city trip would give me more choices and better public transportation, but I might feel tired from the heat. The main tradeoff is comfort versus convenience.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A trade-off means you gain one benefit but accept a disadvantage. It is a very useful word in real conversations because most travel decisions are not entirely good or entirely bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prompt 3: Explain Why You Changed Your Plans<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe you originally planned to visit Japan. It is less expensive, easier to organize, and I can still enjoy a different environment. The main reason is that the total cost of Japan has increased, especially the hotel prices. Also, I\u2019m worried that the heat will make it difficult to enjoy outdoor sightseeing. For example, at Sun Moon Lake, I can go for a walk early in the morning and relax in the afternoon. I\u2019ll lose some of the excitement of traveling overseas, but I\u2019ll gain more flexibility and better value-for-money. If you want a relaxing trip, I think a nearby destination could be a good option for you too.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His colleague then explained that she was also reconsidering her plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jay did not simply say, \u201cJapan is too expensive.\u201d He explained the choice, the reasons, the example, and the tradeoff.
